Christchurch Boys’ High School

Founded in 1881, Christchurch Boys’ High School (CBHS) is a single-sex Year 9-13 state secondary school for boys with a roll of approximately 1400 students. The School has a reputation for academic excellence and an extensive co-curricular programme, and is regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading schools. Christchurch Boys’ High School believes in high standards and the pursuit of excellence – in academic work, in sport and culture, in discipline and behaviour, and in service to others. 

All students must have sufficient English competence to cope in mainstream classes. This equates to Intermediate level English language skills. This is tested before and after arrival at CBHS. 

Year 11 and 12 students study NCEA courses. Year 13 is seen as a preparation year for university. Accelerant and extension classes operate at all levels.

Christchurch Girls’ High School

Christchurch Girls’ High School is a single-sex girls school located at the edge of picturesque Hagley Park, near the centre of Christchurch. Established in 1877, the school has a longstanding tradition of providing an extremely high standard of education. We are one of the top single-sex high schools in New Zealand with consistently high achievement rates. Christchurch Girls’ High School offers a full classroom and school experience with access to the entire school curriculum and immersion into classrooms. If needed, student’s programmes can be supported by intensive ESOL classes specifically designed to teach English lessons in individual, small group, and small class settings. Many senior classes offer school trips and camps around New Zealand.

At Christchurch Girls’ High School, there are high expectations of positive outcomes for all students. Our students continue to gain pleasing NCEA results. In 2018, at Level 1, 96% of students achieved, and 82.8% gained endorsed certificates. Level 2 had a 92% pass rate and 66% endorsement rate, and Level 3 a 95.5% pass rate and 53.5% endorsement rate.

International students are warmly welcomed at Christchurch Girls’ High School and they thrive in a caring, supportive environment where the cultures of all peoples are celebrated. Our school has always believed in a holistic approach to education; academic progress must be balanced with the development of the whole person. Middleton Grange School

Middleton Grange School is an integrated co-educational school for students from 5-18 years of age (Years 1-13) that provides a supportive family environment. Students enjoy modern facilities including a Performing Arts Centre, with a 300 seat theatre
and state of the art music and drama facilities.

International students are fully integrated into the life of the school and are supported by a dedicated group of staff who oversee their unique pastoral and academic needs. We work closely with parents and caregivers to encourage excellence, while developing character and lives of service to others.

Burnside High School

Burnside High School is recognised as one of the best schools in New Zealand for Performance Music and has one of the highest performing Visual Arts departments in the country. Burnside High School is the largest high school in the South Island and offers a huge range of subjects and sporting options. The school is divided into four divisions, each with its own Divisional Principal, Dean and Guidance Counsellor. Students achieve excellent results in national examinations, competitions and many students earn university scholarships in New Zealand and abroad.

University of Canterbury

The University of Canterbury, established in 1873 by scholars of Oxford and Cambridge. Its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are well recognised worldwide. It is one of the top 200 world universities in “The Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2010- 2011”. The University community currently comprises 17,000 students and an academic staff of 850.It offers degrees in Arts, Commerce, Education (physical education), Engineering, Fine Arts, Forestry, Law, Music, Social Work, Speech and Language Therapy, Science, Sports Coaching and Teaching.

Massey University

Massey University is a university located in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Albany, New Zealand, and Wellington, New Zealand. Massey University has approximately 35,000 students, 17,000 of whom are extramural or distance-learning students.

Massey University has campuses in Palmerston North, Wellington, and Auckland (at Albany). It also has a business school accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
